Vernal + Capitol Reef

This month we were able to take 2 overnight trips. Our first was to Vernal, UT.

We went to Vernal so I could run the Dino Half. I had been looking forward to this half, but my dinner from the night before didn't settle well and I had one of my worst half times. I ended up finishing 2:16, hoping for a sub 2.

After the race, we quickly (so quickly I forgot to get my drop bag 😭) headed back to the hotel so I would have time to shower before we had to check out. Before heading home, we took a detour to Fantasy Canyon. I had wanted to go to Fantasy Canyon for months. The pictures looked so cool! And it was. If you're already in the area. But I don't feel like it's worth the drive to see it alone.

Our second overnight was a camping trip to Capitol Reef. We got a National Parks Pass in March and I want to use it as much as we can this year. We decided Capitol Reef would be a good option for Memorial Day, with the hopes it wouldn't be so busy. Capitol Reef is great for the family or for a quick trip, but we saw all we wanted to in a half a day. Don't get me wrong though, it was beautiful and we had a wonderful time! We hiked, camped, and got pie! Because the camping grounds were full, we stayed on BML land a little outside of the park. Best decision ever! We had such an incredible view and we had privacy. All in all, I would go back in a heartbeat. If you plan to go, I would suggest BLM land, but keep in mind there's no water or restrooms.
